Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an energy based psycho-therapeutic tool.
The most important functional module of EFT is based on the modern psycho-therapeutic tools like TA (Transaction Analysis), NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), EMDR (Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and BT (Behavior Therapy).
The affirmations used in EFT along with tapping are very important and shape the journey towards healing. Employing affirmations with the tapping is a unique psychological method to correct psychological reversals as well as nullify the effect of negative emotions.
Tapping in EFT is based on acupuncture which is the oldest form of Chinese Therapy. However, it does not require needles but involves a gentle tapping procedure with our fingers.EFT tapping points are the points that lie on the meridians. There are some points on the meridians, where energy accumulates making the Qi (energy) more accessible to touch. When these points are stimulated by tapping, the energy imbalances are restored. According to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), insufficient energy, makes a person vulnerable to disease. Tapping in EFT corrects the energy imbalances caused by insufficient, jammed or blocked energies.
In essence, EFT does not erase traumatic memories. It erases the negative emotions associated with these memories. According to David Feinstein, PhD, a clinical psychologist,
"In Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) ... the core procedure is simple and straightforward: mentally activate a problem or a desired positive mental state while stimulating a set of acupoints. Targeted problems can range from simple phobias to severe trauma-based reactions to highly nuanced emotional responses, such as distrust of any man whose height is reminiscent of one’s tall father. Desired positive states that can be cultivated might include increased confidence when speaking to an audience, better eye-hand coordination on the tennis court, or an enhanced ability to express difficult feelings to one’s spouse. EP can be self-administered or integrated into virtually any existing clinical framework. " (2011)

Gary Craig - Retired EFT Founder
EFT has been developed by Gary Craig, a Stanford Engineer. He has brought Einstein's discovery back to the forefront of psychotherapy. We all know Einstein's famous equation E=mc˛, spoke about energy. Our bodies and everything else is composed of energy.
Gary Craig says - " It applies to a wide variety of emotional, health and performance issues and it often works where nothing else will"

From EFT Universe research Pages:
"EFT Universe supports the evidence-based standards defined by the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 12 (Clinical Psychology) Task Force ("APA standards" for short). These define an "empirically validated treatment" as one for which there are two different controlled trials conducted by independent research teams. For a treatment to be designated as "efficacious," the studies must demonstrate that the treatment is better than a wait list, placebo, or established efficacious treatment. To be designated as "probably efficacious," a treatment must have been shown to be better than a wait list in two studies that meet these criteria, or are conducted by the same research team rather than two independent teams. The APA standards advocate that studies contain sufficient subjects to achieve a level of statistical significance of p < .05 or greater, which means that there is only one possibility in 20 that the results are due to chance. The current status of EFT as an "evidence-based" practice is summarized in this statement published in the APA journal Review of General Psychology:
"A literature search identified 50 peer-reviewed papers that report or investigate clinical outcomes following the tapping of acupuncture points to address psychological issues. The 17 randomized controlled trials in this sample were critically evaluated for design quality, leading to the conclusion that they consistently demonstrated strong effect sizes and other positive statistical results that far exceed chance after relatively few treatment sessions. Criteria for evidence-based treatments proposed by Division 12 of the American Psychological Association were also applied and found to be met for a number of conditions, including PTSD."
